Oh thank God

After this year, they're laying the Hummer out to pasture. I seriously Do Not understand the appeal of these cars. They're big, they're ugly, they're expensive, they're a road hazard to anyone else driving near you, they're bad for the environment, and they're bad for the economy. If I was more idealistic and naive, I'd hold out hope that they'd get rid of trucks too. Yech.

Speaking of retired cars, I wish they'd bring back the DeLorean. Door-hinge kits, while cool, just aren't the same.

Thank God these gas hugs are finally going to die. Who are the stupid assholes that buy these anyway?

*Seriously*. I find almost invariably that they're also terrible drivers. I hate not being able to see around the guy in front of me, especially when he cuts me off and then drives 15 MPH under.

No skin off my back - I've always thought they were dumb (lately, I admit that Toyota's FJ Cruiser gets me moist), but I'm torn. Sure, I agree with many of your criticisms (although, I'm not sure about the "bad for the economy" one), but it fills the necessary role of Environmentalist Pisser Offer.

What's an evil capitalist to do?

Geez, John-Michael, and here I always thought of you as a "half-full" kinda guy ;)

Micah, I'm sure your evil capitalist mind will think of something ;) I think they're bad for the economy because they're wasteful -- anything that's wasteful expends poorly and inefficiently resources that could be put to better use elsewhere. For instance, someone who drives a hummer to work everyday is using more gas, meaning there's less for everyone else than there would be if that person drove a Honda to work. And I still don't get the appeal. I mean, they are Just Plain Butt Ugly. If we're gonna be evil wasteful capitalists can't we at least do it with something pretty?

No doubt they are wasteful, but I can't imagine someone being denied filling up their Honda because another person has a Hummer. If anything, they may be good for the economy since their owners would have to purchase more gas than the rest of us. With the ridiculous gas taxes we have, I can imagine the state and federal governments are aren't shedding any tears (similar to the buttloads of money they make off of exorbitant cigarette taxes; but it ain't wise to publicly admit they're happy to have these guarenteed revenue streams). But I see where you're coming from.

If we're gonna be evil wasteful capitalists can't we at least do it with something pretty?

Exactly why I love the VW SUV and the FJ Cruiser. If I were pulling down fatty boombatty big law firm paychecks, I'd buy one and drive it across the country and deliver your next mix CD in person.

Mix CD!! I know from personal experience that your mix CDs make for great cross-country listening :)

Micah, I'd be all for road hogs paying more in taxes, if I had any faith in the government not to flush it down the toilet :P Stupid taxes. Stupid government.

Something we agree on!

As you can probably deduce, there was no Micah's Spring Mix 2006. Most of my CDs are in storage in Ohio and, though I have nearly 8k songs in my iTunes, they are all ripped at 128 kps (to maximize space on my iPod). I will not sacrifice the quality of my mix CDs!

I'm thinking that the next mix will be the Autumn one. But I'm also full of suprises.
