UGH

This pisses me off.

He'll probably tie up more of our courts' precious time suing me, and waste more of our media's resources calling me "fat" or "slutty" or something similarly mature and well-reasoned if he ever finds my blog, but I'll say it: DONALD TRUMP IS A PATHETIC WEASELLY DELUSIONAL LITTLE BOOGER OF A MAN. Donald, I don't even hate you. I just think so little of you I can barely even believe we're the same species.

The King of Idiots' latest addle-brained ploy is apparently to hang a flag on a flagpole that exceeds the height permitted by content-neutral regulations regarding the height of building structures. Including, you know, flagpoles. The city gave him notice that he was violating the regulations and graciously gave him a month and a half to take down the flag or seek a permit to keep it flying. Apparently this wasn't good enough for the little man-child. Here is an actual, honest-to-God quote from the article:

"The town council of Palm Beach should be ashamed of itself," Trump said Thursday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "They're fining me for putting up the American flag. This is probably a first in United States history."

Wow. Just. Wow.

This man is a billionaire? Seriously???

Fuck, if being this stupid makes you billions, then why did I waste all that time in law school, learning unimportant little things like the fact that content-neutral regulations on the size of public structures do not implicate the First Amendment? What a sucker I was! Here I could be wasting the country's resources by filing a twenty-five million dollar lawsuit because I didn't bother complying with perfectly legal and reasonable city ordinances. And running a overhyped network series, to boot.

My God. Did I just step into the Twilight Zone?

Trump is a despicable pudgy wart for sure. I also have difficulty assimilating the fact that we are the same species. In fact, I would like to formally issue my denial of this grave miscarriage of truth, justice and The American Way.

Seriously, the man is a complete moron. Who knew that intelligence higher than ones shoe size could disqualfiy a person from obtaining wealth or even a good hairpiece?

trump is the master of self-publicity. he markets the trump name, and trades heavily off of it.
and he pays the best lawyers for a reason.
he aint stupid.
he's brilliant.
this 'patriotic' display has raised his profile, and makes mainstream, every day folks think less negatively of him.

come on...
he's fightin for the flag, the american way, freedom of expression...

i bet you he wins.
wanna take that bet?

heart, agreed, agreed, agreed, agreed, and... agreed.

gino, I would say he's media savvy. But so is Paris Hilton. This doesn't make him brilliant or smart. He's a smarmy ass with an IQ lower than the current temperature here in LA (and it's been cold). He pays the best lawyers because he can afford to. If I could afford to keep the best lawyers on retainer, I would too.

He's not fighting for the flag or for freedom of expression. That's what he wants you to think. This is an overblown pissing contest and nothing more. He thinks "I'm Donald Trump so NO ONE gets to tell me what to do! I'll show you, commissioner!" The man thinks that because he is richer than God he is above the law. I cannot WAIT for a judge (at least, one who's halfway worth his/her legal salt) to smack his bitch-ass down. I'm telling you, this ordinance is perfectly legal, in the abstract, AND as applied. It says you can't hang a flag from a flagpole over a certain height without a permit. It says nothing about what type of flag it is. If little Donny Boy bothered to obey the law and get a permit, he'd be allowed to fly an Al Qaeda flag if that's what his little heart desired. The law is content NEUTRAL. It is a bastardization of our basic legal principles to pretend this has ANYTHING to do with free speech. This lawsuit is a slap in the face for people who have actually had to deal with REAL censorship. As an attorney, I am offended at whiny boy's ploy for even more money to add to his coffers.

I will take that bet. Trump will lose. In the court of law and hopefully in the court of public opinion too.

Leif, no idea where he went to school. But plenty of not-smart-enough people have graduated from great schools. The system is far from perfect.

my comment "come on...

i dont have the hate on for trump that you do.
i'm rather neutral. he is a celebrity, with a public 'shtick' like the rest of them. sometimes i enjoy seeing him (on tv), other times he annoys me. i never seen any of his shows. not interested.

but i still do think he is one brilliant dude. i even think his assishness is calculated. as is this flag flap.

anyway...
so what we betting for? what's the stake?
you wanna name it?

Leif, LF's right. The Preznit is a Harvard and Yale man. Fat lot of good that did us.

LF: just for argument's sake, might this particular instance not have first amendment implications? Repeated Congressional votes have demonstrated time and time again that our government believes that treatment of the flag -- be it reverential display or burning it -- is essential, protected speech. If Trump's argument is that the size of his flag merely represents the size of his "patriotism" (there's a new euphemism!), and the flag has first amendment protections associated with it, then doesn't he have standing to challenge the law?

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a douchebag.

andy,
success in academia has little to do with intellect, and much much more to do with personal discipline.

i've known near retards that went on after HS, and got a degree, but still lack the common sense to fuction in the real world, or even make basic personal business decisions.

gino, sorry... these intarnets make it hard to read teh sarcasm. What I hate about Trump is his supreme self-importance and indifference to anything in the world that doesn't revolve around him. He is the worst example of American corporate greed-mongering run amok. Trump is the reason people suffer in this world. I actually mean that.

I'm simply unable to believe someone is "brilliant" if he would actually file a complaint for something this stupid and dull-witted. As I said, I think in a lot of ways he's media-savvy -- but he's also catering to an audience that enjoys idiotic mediocrity like Jackass, Jerry Springer, and Cheaters.

As for the terms, a gentleman's bet? I'll publicize your blog and give you credit for predicting the outcome if you're right, and vice versa if I'm right? Or did you have something else in mind?

andy, I'd agree with your devil's advocacy IF the restrictions in question had anything to do with the sort of flag. From what I can tell, they don't. They're just regulating physical structures. For instance, it's generally not a violation of the First Amendment for a city ordinance to say that billboards may only be X feet by X feet. It's quite possible it might even be constitutional for an ordinance to say that text must be legible so drivers won't have to squint to see it (in other words, the billboard can't create a potentially dangerous distraction). These sorts of regulations have nothing to do with speech -- they're about maintaining order in society with no distinction between what message a person tries to convey.

Thus, if the ordinance said that Trump could only put up an American flag if he also hung the Florida state flag, this could potentially be a First Amendment violation. But Trump is no martyr. He's a whiner who got into a pissing contest with a guy who's just doing his damn job, and he thinks because he has money he can bully the city into backing off. I cannot WAIT to see him get the spanking he so richly deserves.

Roonie, amen sister.

Well, I don't know what the fuss is about. Someone decides to hang a flag as high as possible. I say, so what? Is a plane going to crash into it? NO? I don't give a crap.

I don't know why we pay so much attention to useless shit. I mean people vote more for a game show than they vote for elections.

At the present time; I don't see a whole lot of difference between the two. The latter is supposed to be more important. They have both become a theater with profiteering at the forefront.

Trump is just playing the same stupid game we all play. It's not a matter of hating the player. We should hate the game.

We love the game. We can't get enough of it.

knights, I agree that bureaucratic requirements are mostly bullshit. But the rest of us don't get a free pass just for whining and bitching about it, and neither should Trump. Especially since he's such an obnoxious loser.

TLF, I don't know if anyone else has tried to put a flag higher than what is written as law. Trump is definitely not getting a free pass. Trump is getting a lot of attention for a law that is not all too relevant. He is a loser with a lot of money. Money doesn't talk, it screams for you.

The flag poses no hazard to public safety. It could be a distraction to people but so are nice exotic cars.
