So, even though I've hardly seen anything this summer

I'm going to have to go see Talledega Nights. I'll go alone if I have to. But I just heart Will Ferrell. They're saying this is better than Anchorman... how??? I must know!!!

Let us know how it is. I read that it wasn't too good. By the way, do NOT see Miami Vice. I have never been so bored.

I am curious what you thought of this.

Finally saw it yesterday afternoon, and there were points of the movie where my stomach hurt from laughing so much. Definitely worth seeing in the theaters. The second half drags a bit but picks up by the end. Overall, another winner by Will Ferrell, whom I just heart.

nwsixer, you're right, it's not better than Anchorman (the comparison had surprised me), which remains one of the very best comedies I've ever seen. Any movie that features a terrier saving an egotistical news reporter from being mauled to death by a bear is either going to be horrifically bad, or unbelievably good. Anchorman is clearly the latter. I wouldn't necessarily cut it short on the "high art" dimension either... I know there's a tendency not to see comedy as "art," but making people laugh is, in my mind, one of the truest art forms, and one of the most difficult to master. That Anchorman does it so well, and yet generally veers away from the low-brow toilet humor frat boy physicality to which so many other comedies fall prey, is to me reason to consider it as placing high on the list of Truly Good Movies.

Still, anything that keeps Will Ferrell in the comedy business makes me happy :)

Better than Anchorman? Hardly. But I found it funny.

The comparison of the two films is brought about by them sharing the same creative team (Ferrel, Adam McKay, Judd Apatow).

That makes sense. It did have some moments of zaniness that reminded me of Anchorman. But, while Talladega Nights is *definitely* worth seeing, it's still no Anchorman. But, then again, what is?

I totally wanna see talladega. But Anchorman is maybe the only comedy i've ever seen where halfway through, where you expect it to start dragging or the laughs to start coming less often, it turns on the afterburner! The movie just gets funnier! A true Classic!

annika, I recommend it. Very funny movie. Not Anchorman but still well worth the watch.
