Speak of the devil...
I've discovered which movie is being filmed near my office. Apparently Mr. Cruise himself is stalking me -- or, rather, shooting Mission: Impossible 3 near where I work.
**POSSIBLE PLOT SPOILER**
I don't know if this is actually a spoiler or not, but on the off-chance that for once I'm more in the know that most others, I thought I'd warn you. Apparently the movie, or part of it, is taking place in Shanghai. In order to give downtown Los Angeles that authentic Shanghai feel, they've replaced building signs, street signs and even road markings with Chinese words. This picture was taken Friday night from upper Grand, overlooking the intersection of 4th and lower Grand.
The new look of downtown LA
And I'm not going to play cool and pretend that it isn't AWESOME that they're shooting MI:3 right outside my office. Like, where I drive my car every day. Ha ha ha ha!

You are way cool. As much as I try to be a disinterested adult regarding all things entertainment industry, I can get super star struck. Like the time I saw next to Colin Farrell in P.F.Chang's, and we had an eye-contact moment and it took every ounce of my adult restraint not to completely freak out.
But I digress. Be sure to keep an eyeball on the happenings, and keep us updated!
Oooooh Colin Farrell. Um, no particular reason I ask, which P.F. Chang's was it? ;)
It's super foggy today, so I don't know if they'll do any filming. It's so cold-looking here that if there were more tall buildings I'd think I was in NY. In, like, January.
Thanks for spoiling the movie. Now I don't have to see it. THANKS! (kidding)
Hey, I ate two tables away from Mike Ditka at his restaurant. I'm cool, too!
Ditka...
HEART ATTACK!!
I just can't say "Ditka" without laughing. But he was in a movie with Will Ferrell, one of my all-time comedy heroes, so I'll give you that as "cool."
I saw all of that, too! I was interviewing in the LA office of Quinn Emannuel this past week, and I couldn't get to my hotel (the downtown Standard) because of the filming. Crazy! And then we get stuck on the set and got to watch 85 cars back up in unison.
Anyway, glad you're enjoying LA!
The Standard!!
Did you press the "Fluffer" button?
He he he.
Yeah, the Standard was an experience. I didn't see a fluffer button, and now I feel like I missed out on a very happy ending. What, exactly, does the button do? ::prays it is graphic::
Hehe. A happy ending would have been nice, but I didn't get one. ::sigh::
It's a button on the phone. You press it and -- well, basically, it's free porn for your ears. Ahh, postmodern hotel amenities!
Porn for my ears? Damn me for not looking more closely!
I guess you'll have to stay there again! ;)
